LingRise ("we", "our", or "us") is an independent AI-powered speaking practice application for IELTS and TOEFL preparation. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the LingRise mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information solely to provide the core features of the app:
- Voice recordings: When you record a speaking response, your audio is temporarily processed to generate a transcript and feedback. Audio is not stored permanently on our servers.
- Speech transcripts: Text transcripts generated from your recordings are used to produce AI feedback and are not retained after your session ends.
- Camera video (optional): If you choose to enable your camera during an AI avatar session, your video is streamed in real time to Simli's servers via WebRTC. The video is not recorded or stored by LingRise or Simli beyond the duration of the session.
- Usage data: Basic, non-identifiable usage information (e.g., which exam type was selected) may be logged for debugging and improving the app.
We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information. No user account is required to use LingRise.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To transcribe your spoken responses and generate personalised feedback.
- To display an AI avatar that delivers instructions and feedback within the app.
- To improve the reliability and quality of the app.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to providing the app's core functionality.
3. Third-Party Services
LingRise uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Simli — provides the real-time AI avatar video stream. During interactive sessions, your microphone audio is always used. If you choose to enable your camera within the session, your video is streamed in real time to Simli's servers via WebRTC for the purpose of the interaction. Neither LingRise nor Simli records or permanently stores this video stream. All data is processed in accordance with Simli's privacy policy.
- Cartesia — provides AI-generated voice synthesis (text-to-speech) for the avatar. Text content is sent to Cartesia's API and processed according to their privacy policy.
- DeepSeek AI — generates spoken feedback based on your transcript. Transcripts are sent to DeepSeek's API and processed according to their privacy policy.
- iFlytek (科大讯飞) — performs speech-to-text transcription of your recorded responses.
- Tencent Cloud (腾讯云) — provides the cloud server infrastructure that hosts the LingRise backend. Data transmitted between the app and our servers passes through Tencent Cloud infrastructure.
Each third-party service is bound by its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them independently.
4. Data Retention
LingRise does not maintain a user database. Voice recordings and transcripts are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers beyond the duration of a single practice session. Once your session ends, your audio and transcript data are discarded.
5. Children's Privacy
LingRise is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
6. Your Rights
Because LingRise does not collect or store personal data linked to your identity, there is no personal profile to access, correct, or delete. If you have concerns about data processed by our third-party providers, please refer to their respective privacy policies.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Canada, you may have additional rights under GDPR or PIPEDA. Please contact us with any questions.
7. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect data transmitted between the app and our servers. We recommend using LingRise on a trusted network connection.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
